BILLS TO WATCH:

HB 999/SB 266 “Public Postsecondary Educational Institutions”

  • Due to amendments, HB 999 and SB 266 are nearly the same in wording. On 4/27, SB 266 was heard for its second reading on the Senate floor. Several amendments were made but ultimately failed. It was then read for a third time and passed along party lines (aside from Senator Bradley [R], who voted against the bill) on 5/3. HB 999 was marked “Laid on Table” on 5/2.

HB 1445/SB 256 “Employee Organizations Representing Public Employees”

  • After SB 256 was passed in the Senate, HB 1445 passed in the House on Wednesday and will be sent to the Governor’s office for signature.

HB 311/SB 324 “Postsecondary Intellectual Freedom and Viewpoint Diversity”

  • HB 311 was read on 3/7 and has still has not seen any movement.
  • SB 324 was introduced to the Senate on 3/7 and has still not seen any movement.

ACTIONS TO TAKE:

  • Join the fight against HB 1617 and SB 1718 HERE
  • Contact your House Representative and ask them to vote NO on HB 999 HERE
  • Contact your Senate Representative and ask them to vote NO on SB 266 HERE
