SB256 would revoke the collective bargaining rights of faculty covered by United Faculty of Florida unless 60% of the eligible total unit are dues-paying members. If UFF-UNF does not meet 60%, we would have 30 days to reauthorize the union. Legally-binding protections of the collective bargaining agreement are at risk. University administration would have universal say over all working conditions.

VALUES OF UNIONIZATION

  • Collective bargaining agreement
  • Negotiations with Board of Trustees over pay & working conditions
  • Political & legal representation at state & federal levels
  • Representation in disciplinary meetings
  • $1M in professional liability insurance

COSTS OF DECERTIFICATION

  • No enforceable contract
  • No legal right to negotiate & unequal bargaining power
  • No enforceable rights for faculty (tenure-track and instructor-lines, including visitors)
  • No due process protections in cases of investigation or discipline
  • No neutral binding arbitration process
